Member Spotlight: Tricia Schwall, Manager, Dickinson Hall

Lake/Forest Lake Bluff Chamber:  Tell us a little bit about Dickinson Hall and the unique services and programs you offer to older adults in our community.

Tricia Schwall: Dickinson Hall has stood for nearly 100 years, and the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Senior Center has been a vital part of the community since 1970. The two came together in 2000 when the Senior Center moved from downtown Lake Forest to its current home within Dickinson Hall. Today, we offer a wide range of programs and services designed to enrich the lives of our community members. These include Special Events, Luncheons, Book Club, Music Appreciation, Thought-Provoking Lectures, Cards & Games, Healthy Living, Fitness, Trips, Support Services, and much more. Each program is thoughtfully designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of our members.

LF/LB: What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?

TS:  I've always had an interest in Social Services, but after high school, my path took a different direction. When the chance to join Dickinson Hall as a part-time program assistant came up in 2008, it felt like the perfect opportunity to explore something new. What I didn't realize at the time was that this part-time position would bring me to Dickinson Hall full-time and allow me to pursue my passion for Social Services and doing work I truly love.

LF/LB: What is your vision or hope for the future of Dickinson Hall?

TS:  My vision for the future of Dickinson Hall Senior Center is to sustain a vibrant, inclusive community that fosters connection, engagement, and well-being for seniors. Whether you're a senior, a family member, or a neighbor/friend of a senior, there are many people in your life who could benefit from the programs and services we offer. Our goal is to empower seniors to maintain their independence, participate in meaningful activities, and build lasting relationships. My hope for Dickinson Hall is to become a widely recognized name in the communities we serve.

LF/LB:  In addition to your wonderful programming are there other ways Dickinson Hall gives back to the community?

TS:  Yes, in addition to our wonderful programming, Dickinson Hall often finds ways to give back to our communities through various initiatives. These include scholarship programs, financial assistance for community members in need, volunteer opportunities, and partnerships with local organizations.
