Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Chamber: Tell us about Wendt Maintenance and your inspiration for working in this business.
Andy Wendt: My dad, Dale Wendt, worked for the Village of Lake Bluff in the Public Works Department for 24 years. Then he started this business. I was here at the start, mowing lawns and doing whatever he needed. He and my mom had been trying to retire, and sadly my mom passed before they could.
My dad finally retired last year, and my wife, Paola and I are now running the business together. This is the 24th year for Wendt Maintenance. We’re busy getting ready for spring.
LFLBC: What is one thing you want people to know about Wendt Maintenance?
AW: We’re really passionate about the community and the business. It’s grown organically, because we do such a great job, that our customers refer us to neighbors up and down the street.
LFLBC: How has the pandemic affected your business?
AW: Because we work outside, we can stay pretty safe. But over the past few months when we were cooped up, my wife and I have been working on the branding and marketing.
With people spending so much time at home, we have a lot of work. People really want their home and landscape to be comfortable and a reflection of themselves.
LFLBC: What is your business vision?
AW: We really want to continue to enhance the community we serve. We love to drive down the street and say “That’s our work, and that, and that…” We take a lot of pride in our work.
LFLBC: How do you give back to the community?
AW: We’ve participated in the Adopt a Highway program. Every year we’ve got our equipment in the Lake Bluff 4th of July parade—we wouldn’t miss that. And one more thing…my dad is a big antique collector, and so he’s been donating things to the Lake Bluff History Museum.
LFLBC: Is there anything else you’d like to share?
AW: We’re looking to grow our business, so if you need lawn care, check out our website or give us a call. We’d love to have you for a customer. www.wendtlandscaping.com
